Ronald Arthur Brooke was born on December 8, 1946 in Ashcroft, Canada. Currently, after years of living in Kuwait, Ronald Arthur Brooke has settled in the village of Kosovo with his wife, Veneta Brooke, where they have restored a wonderful house.
His grandfather, Arthur Adair Brooke, was the eldest child of Arthur Swindells Brooke and Amelia Adair Clemenshaw.
Arthur was raised and educated in both Switzerland and England. Immigrating to Canada in 1891, Arthur learned about farming from Joseph Merry at the Barnsley Farm in Carman, Manitoba. He purchased his own farm from Ernest Judd in 1893.
On November 16, 1898, Arthur Brooke married Annie Florence Ruth, daughter of Abner R. Ruth of Carman, Manitoba.
In January 1901, Arthur Brooke left Manitoba for Alberta where the family homesteaded in the Didsbury area. Then moved to Salmon Arm about 1907 where he farmed up until 1944.
Arthur was also an artist; his work depicting farm and homesteading scenes became well known across Eastern Canada and United States. The Watercolour Journals of Arthur Adair Brooke
They had three sons Harold Arthur, Ralph Edward, Ernest Cuthbert and one daughter, Ruth Adair.
Ronald Brooke's father, Harold Arthur Brooke of Clearwater was born in Manitoba in 1900 and moved to British Columbia in 1906.
He was born in Manitoba in 1900, and moved to BC in 1906. He and his wife, Eleanor, owned and operated the well-known TU Court at Cache Creek for nearly ten years between 1945 and 1954. The TU Court at that time included a garage, store, restaurant and motel in their operations, and during those years was practically all that Cache Creek consisted of. Following the sale of the business, he purchased the Siska Lodge in the Fraser Canyon and ran it for six years, then spent a year in Fort St. James and the next five farming in Saskatchewan.
Returning to BC, he settled in Sorrento. About a year ago his wife decided that Clearwater would be a pleasant place to spend their retirement years; They then purchased and moved into a home across the road from the Dutch Lake beach.
Mr. Brooke was a Mason of the Zarthan Lodge at Ashcroft. For the past fifteen years he was also an active member of the New Democratic Party in Sorrento, then in Clearwater.
He is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor, eight children, and four stepchildren, and died on January 30, 1978, at Shuswap Hospital in Salmon Arm.
