My village Kosovo and our art shop "The school"

Old stone house in Kosovo village

Hello friends,

Perhaps few of you know that I live in a unique Rhodope village with Revival architecture, which has managed to preserve its authentic spirit from modern construction trends. While in 1919 about 1,500 people lived in the village of Kosovo, today we are only 25 permanent residents, along with those who visit their weekend or summer homes. Of course, 11 guest houses keep our village vibrant not only during the holidays but almost all year round.

Since May 2025, we have opened our Art Shop "The School", where we lovingly showcase the crafts of our local people and provide tourist information to guests who visit to enjoy the silence and beauty of Kosovo. As I like to say, the chakras here open for creativity, so everyone who lives here discovers their talents and creates at full steam.

Personally, I am originally from the city of Kubrat and spent most of my life in Ruse and Kuwait, but since 2018, I have been living with my family in the village of Kosovo.

Information about our village:
The village of Kosovo is located in the central part of the Rhodope Mountains (Chernatitsa), just 5 km from the spa resort of Narechenski Bani. It is surrounded by pristine nature and hills, with four perennial rivers flowing through its neighborhoods. It is easily accessible from Asenovgrad (30 km), Pamporovo (36 km), Plovdiv (50 km), and Sofia (197 km).

Kosovo has been inhabited since the time of the Thracians, but the first official documents mentioning it date back to the 17th century. The village flourished toward the end of the 19th century, which is when most of the surviving houses were built. The local population's livelihood included animal husbandry, agriculture, transport (kiradzhiystvo), and masonry. In the 20th century, with the growth of the mineral baths in Narechen, the village saw a decline.

The village of Kosovo has preserved the typical Rhodope Revival architecture. It features several cultural monuments, five of which are of national importance. Two of the buildings were crafted by the famous master Hadji Georgi Stanchovski, who also built the renowned Koyuimdzhioglu and Dimitar Georgiadi houses in Old Plovdiv. These include the Church of the Assumption (1851) and his own house ("Hadzhiyskata") from 1853. Also highly interesting are the old school (1889), the chapels, the watermill, and most of the historic houses in the village.
